Rising Sun Center for Opportunity’s Climate Careers Program 

Through Climate Careers, young people (ages 15 -24) can gain hands-on, paid summer work experience as Energy Specialists. In this role, you’ll spend the summer helping residents save energy, water, and money through the Green House Calls program. You’ll take part in workshops, network, and gain a true feel for environmentally conscious work, culminating in a paid fall externship placement with one of Rising Sun’s partners.

WAGE: $19.50/hr

SCHEDULE: June – July (up to 35 hrs/week) and August – October (at least 12 hrs/week)

California Youth Service Corps

In partnership with local governments and community-based organizations across CA, the Youth Service Corps employs young people to help tackle critical issues in priority areas: COVID-19 recovery, food insecurity, and climate action. Service Corps prioritizes youth who are low-income, unemployed, or out of school. Placements and opportunities vary by location.

WAGE: $15.50 – $30/hr

SCHEDULE: Part-time and full-time

California Conservation Corps

CCC is a yearlong paid experience for young adults across CA to work on environmentally focused projects and emergency response focused on conserving CA’s natural resources.

WAGE: $2,814/month

WorkSource NextGen program provides year-round workforce training and education program for people 16-24 years old who live in Cherokee, Clayton, Douglas, Fayette, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties. Wages and schedule vary based on employment placement.

South Side Chicago Job Board

Community specific opportunity platform lists a variety of jobs located in south side Chicago.

Youth Job Resources

Chicago Park District

The Parks has a variety of seasonal and year-round jobs available for students 16 and older.

After School Matters

Teens 14 and older can apply for a variety of programs that support career exploration, and professional skill development. Programs often include hands-on learning opportunities, as well as mentorship and coaching.

WAGE: Stipend based on attendance and/or program completion.

Transitional Youth Leader (TYL)

Transitional Youth Leaders support Chicago Public School graduates in their post-secondary journey. Ideal candidates are outgoing, committed to learning and supporting peers, and have at least one year of experience on campus.

WAGE: $15 per hour

ISACorps Community Worker

Support young people with academic, financial and social barriers faced in life after high school. This position receives extensive training and career development support, and a tuition waiver for  Illinois public universities.

Chicago Regional College Program (CRCP)

CRCP provides tuition assistance for package handlers at UPS in Hodgkins, IL

Student Pollworker Initiative

Student Poll Worker Program in NYC encourages students to become poll workers during elections. This program offers students the opportunity to earn money, gain valuable civic experience, and contribute to their communities. Students work under the supervision of experienced poll workers, helping with tasks like voter check-in and ballot collection.

WAGE: Earn up to $600.00 to work two elections and take the training class.

SCHEDULE: Report to your assigned polling place at 5:00AM and work until the polls close.
