Temporary Housing in Chicago

Here are some Chicago resources if you need shelter.

Find a safe space

Housing or shelter is a basic need we all must have in order to feel safe and secure – and in order to be able to focus on other things, like school or work. Prioritize your housing situation so that you know where you are going to be living and to give yourself the peace of mind you deserve.

Chicago Housing Resources

Chicago has several options for temporary housing based on individual need. The list below may help you find the best option for you.

  • Streetlight Chicago is a city-wide directory of  drop-in centers, health clinics, emergency beds, and more for youth and young adults in Chicago between the ages of 14 and 24.
  • The Night Ministry provides housing support, human connection, and health care to members of the Chicago community who are unhoused or experiencing poverty.
  • Illinois Covenant House welcomes young people to a safe environment where they can access food, showers, laundry, case management, employment and education.
  • Brave Space Alliance is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ+ individuals on the South and West sides of the city.
  • The Chicago Public Schools publishes a regularly updated list of resources for CPS students in temporary living situations.

If you in urgent need of housing you can also review this directory of shelters across the US.
