Benefits for pregnant women, new moms and young children

Get started on the right foot

Becoming a parent is the adventure of a lifetime, but it comes with a lot of responsibility and challenges. As a new mom, or soon-to-be mom, it is helpful to know the resources available to you and your growing family.

The Women, Infant, and Children program, commonly known as “WIC”, is a nutrition assistance program in place to make sure that new moms have the help they need to feed their babies and to take care of themselves.

WIC benefits include:

  • Parenting classes
  • Support groups for new moms
  • Free nutrition and breastfeeding counseling
  • Monthly checks for items such as milk, eggs, cereal, cheese, and produce
  • Infants can receive infant formula and, as they get older, cereal and baby food

Eligibility for WIC may vary by state, check for WIC locations and qualifications in your area here. Generally you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Currently pregnant
  • A new mom who is breastfeeding
  • Be in the postpartum (the first 6-8 weeks after birth) stage
  • Have a child 5 years old or younger

Participants must also be considered low income and at nutritional risk according to WIC guidelines.
